from Eater.com:

Allston Korean restaurant Bibim could expand to Somerville's Davis Square, taking over the shuttered McDonald's space. A licensing hearing agenda from last week indicates that Young Mi Kim, chef/co-owner of Bibim in Allston, is seeking a common victualer license and a full liquor license for another Bibim at 243 Elm Street.

The 'For Lease' signs came down several weeks ago.

Ooh, Korean food! I would love to have a Korean restaurant in Davis! Anybody know whether the one in Allston is any good?

The Globe raved (http://www.bostonglobe.com/lifestyle/food-dining/2013/09/24/the-new-mom-and-pop-korean-restaurant-does-everything-right/g7H14wTyPDB1BE5E7XpqjI/story.html) about the authenticity of their food, and they're getting high marks on Yelp (except for a bunch of 1-star reviews from a group that ate there one time and all posted individual bad reviews with details that disagree with each other).

I've been to Bibim in Allston twice and both times I was very impressed. It's definitely some of the best Korean food in Boston.

Oh dear me. A liquor license? Near Ward 6? And there's more than one of the restaurant?

I wonder if Korean food is considered healthy enough for the neighborhood, at this point.

I know I said this in an earlier post, but I really hope this happens. I love Korean food and there isn't one nearby/easy to get to, especially now that Kaya closed. If there were one in Davis, I would definitely go (as frequently as my budget allows, which admittedly isn't incredibly frequent).

*Crosses fingers for soju highballs.*
Korean liquor/cocktails are very different from regular bars, (and has a liquor that neither gives me hangovers nor migraines, hurray) so I hope they get their liquor license!!

Greetings, All,

Yes, Bibim Restaurant, a popular chef-owned, family-run Korean restaurant in Allston, is seeking to take over the shuttered old McDonald's site at 243 Elm Street. I just uploaded a post discussing details for a Community Meeting that Bibim will be hosting Monday night 7:00pm to 8:30pm at the Community Baptist Church, 31 College Avenue, Davis Square (fully-accessible). (Bibim is seeking food and alcohol service licenses from the Somerville Licensing Commission on March 17, 2014.) The Boston Globe has featured its Allston location as one of the Best Cheap Eats selection, and also one of the best new restaurants in Boston in 2013. Please come on Monday, March 10, 2014 to discuss your questions, comments, and, hopefully, support for this unique take on Korean cuisine!

Come to a Community Meeting this Monday, March 10, 2014, from 7:00pm to 8:30pm at The Community Church, 31 College Avenue, Davis Square, Somerville (fully-accessible) to hear about Bibim Restaurant's proposal to open a first-class modern Korean restaurant at 243 Elm Street, the site of the now-shuttered old McDonald's location.

Bibim Restaurant, currently a small, popular restaurant in Allston, features unique, modern Korean cuisine, featuring natural ingredients and no additives. Bibim is owned by chef-owner Young Kim, a native of Korea. Bibim is seeking to expand its location to Davis Square.

Bibim is owned by chef-owner Young Kim, a native of Korea. She is also an artist, focusing on water colors, and she directs her artistic eye to her toward her culinary creations. Her menu reflects a healthy mixture of natural ingredients, with no additives. In fact, the name Bibim in Korean means "mix" and harmony is English - as in a mix of ingredients, and a harmonious mix of diners that is a feature in its Allston restaurant.

While Young is the chef-owner, her son Edward is the general manager. The Boston Globe has lauded Bibim for its wonderful menu and service, stating that "This mother and son re-define what a mom and pop restaurant can be." The Globe rated Bibim highly in its Cheap Eats section, as one of the best, and highlighted it as one of the best new restaurants in Boston in 2013. Bibim's menu prices will remain affordable to its new neighborhood. Boston Magazine and other publications have also favorably reviewed Bibim.

Bibim is and will be an active neighbor and believes in fostering relationships with local non-profits and the arts community. Young Kim, an artist herself, believes in promoting the arts as part of her life, as well as her business. In Somerville, she plans to highlight local artists, and to use her own artistic skills in the design of her restaurant.

Come hear more about Bibim! Bibim is seeking to obtain alcohol and food licenses from the City at a Licensing Commission meeting on March 17, 2014. Come to the Community Meeting to hear more about its plans for the old McDonald's location, ask any questions you may have, show your support for its Davis Square location, and even sample some menu items!
