Yelp has just released its "Best 100 Places To Eat" (in the USA), and coming in at #32 is.... Dave's Fresh Pasta!  It ranks as best in New England.  And apparently New England Yelpers are tough, as there were only 3 other New England places (2 from Maine, one from RI) in the top 100.

I don't actually buy much of their pasta or sauces, but *damn* they make a good sandwich.

(My Brown School card pays for itself at the Dave's sandwich counter...)

I think of that as a place to shop for food, not a place to eat. Is there anywhere to sit down?

3-4 tables in the window, and ~3 more outside in nice weather. The sandwich counter does a brisk business at lunchtime!

And on nice days, there's tables a block up the street in the park.

It looks to me like the list is strongly skewed towards California, Yelp's birthplace.

And yet Dave's Fresh beats out the French Laundry by two spots! Take that, California!

Sorry. I eat at Dave's when I feel lazy about lunch, want a nice sandwich, and need to buy a dozen eggs on my way home; I planned all sorts of ridiculous things to wind up traveling to California for a meal-of-a-lifetime class meal event at French Laundry. I'd give yelp a bit more credibility on this list if they tried having some plausible categories instead of ranking Dave's and French Laundry on the same list...

I think I was a little too subtle with my sarcasm there. Personally I'd give yelp more credibility on this list if I gave them any credibility on the data the list is based on.

I was a little too sleepy with the brain. Yeah.

Except that would just make it like every other of the hundreds of top restaurant lists. At least this one is a little unique.

Proportional to population, it looks very skewed towards Hawaii. Maybe because people eating in Hawaii and reviewing online are just generally in a better mood and having better days than average? :)

I would have to say yes to that. At least, that was my experience. :)

Given that Yelp sells "we will fix your bad rating with us", anything they publish is worth very little to me.

That being said, Dave's does make a good sandwich.
