Hi Folks,

I'm wondering if anyone had any recommendations about where to buy a new fridge. I've heard so many horror stories about getting deliveries from Sears, that I will never buy anything from them...so, other recommendations in the area?

Edit: also does anyone have any recommendations for a fridge repair-person? Could also try a repair first...

Many thanks!

I highly recommend Danby. I ordered a 5.5 cu ft, chest freezer from Amazon and it shipped intact without incident. As far as repairs, I always fix my own stuff.

What's the issue with the fridge?

Unless you have a warranty, fridge repairs that are worth doing (i.e. compressor) are almost as expensive as just buying a new fridge. We had our compressor replaced under warranty about 5 yr ago, without the warranty it would have been about $1K

Thumbs-up for Dell's Appliances here. We haven't had any fridge repairs, but we've used them for stove and dishwasher problems.

Dell's fixed my fridge for much less than a new unit. I've also had Sears deliver and install a washer/dryer without any problems.

I had a stove delivered by Sears and have no complaints.

And of course, buy one with high energy efficiency. Fridges use a lot of electricity, and higher efficiency can pay for the higher price in less than a year.

I believe it's http://www.newenglandappliance.com/appliances/scrath-dent/ I've heard very good things about over the years.

If you end up buying a new one, I suggest Yale Appliance in Dorchester. Great service in the store, easy delivery, and they service things post-warranty as well.

Or Dell's Appliance for a repair, although they will charge you - like $65 or so - for a service call even if you don't end up repairing it.

I always recommend Yale. They have a scratch-and-dent room too. We got our stove/oven, range hood/fan, A/Cs, and ceiling fans there.
