hey guys, i'm curious if anyone has any advice for me...
my mother is driving in next thursday evening and we are taking a ferry out to the vineyard on friday morning. we'll be there until sunday. this means that her car will need to have some place to live between thursday night and sunday afternoon. i don't have a driveway, or a visitor's pass, and i need to point her to the best place for long-term parking. i live in davis square and she is not very good at driving around the city, so the closer to that part of somerville the better. any suggestions? there's a parking lot on buena vista road that most of my visiting friends have used, but it only allows overnight parking in a few spaces between friday after 5pm and sunday. we need a place that will take the car from thursday to sunday. any help would be awesome. thanks!

how are you getting to the vineyard? you don't need the car to drive to the ferry? if so, there is parking at the ferry.

if not, there is always the alewife T. or there may be better suggestions..

Not to encourage this or anything, but many of the neighborhoods just a short walk from Davis have on street parking that does not require a permit. Go off the main streets (since they are all hourly or 2-hrly) and check out near Tufts or Ball Sq. Streetcleaners come Wed or Thur morning, so the car should be fine.

A bunch of streets near me in Teele are no permit-parking. Endicott, Farragut, and Garrison, specifically. I don't want to reveal the dirty secrets of the area, but it's still helpful to know that!

you can check a list of permit parking streets using this pdf file from the city. (http://www.ci.somerville.ma.us/CoS_Content/documents/ListofPermitStreets.pdf)

I would suggest finding a non-permit street and having her leave the car there. Check on the street cleaning thing, but if you talk to the Somerville Parking office before you go and explain, I think they won't ticket you (or will waive it if you go in). They've been really nice to me in the past.

If you go to the Somerville parking office and get a visitor's parking pass, it's only $1. Then, you can call the parking office and tell them that your mom is coming in from out of town, give them the license plate number and car type, and they will not ticket the car for using a visitor's pass for more than 2 days. I just did this and didn't get any tickets this week on my resident parking pass only street. Also, if you do get a ticket after having told the parking office about the visitor staying for numerous days, you can call the Parking office and they will void out the ticket.
