7-Eleven (Mass Ave & Day St) wants to sell beer and wine

The cashier's counter at the Mass Ave & Day St 7-Eleven has a petition asking people to support their application for a license to sell beer and wine.

This would put them in direct competition with Pemberton Farms across the street. I wonder if Pemberton would feel compelled to stay open until 11 pm in response? (They now close at 10 pm most days, 8 pm on Sundays.)

I'd be surprised if 7-11 carried anywhere near as good a selection as Pemberton, which has a pretty good array of craft beer. 7-11 simply doesn't have that kind of space and most I've seen with alcohol sales are cans of coors type beer in coolers and maybe token six packs of Sam Adams or Sierra Nevada. Not to mention Pemberton also has a pretty good liquor selection.

Yeah, that was my reaction -- I'd be surprised if they turned out to be meaningfully in competition with each other...
