My kitchen sink's garbage disposal was recently replaced, and now my house has a broken garbage disposal to get rid of. It's riiiight in that in-between area where I can't figure out if I need to purchase a White Goods sticker for it (like dishwashers and refrigerators), or if it's small enough that it can just go out with the rest of our garbage on trash day (like toasters). Somerville's trash disposal guidelines are no help in this area, unfortunately.

Has anyone here dealt with this specific issue before? I'd rather not risk getting fined for putting it out without a sticker.

Thanks!

2 options I feel- just throw it in that big garbage cart we have now from the city and away it goes OR leave it next to your trash on garbage night right on the ground and it will magically disappear. Usually scrapers will do night runs to see if anything is worth picking up and I believe a lot of the insides of those things are metal

You can also post to CL free stuff to let folks know there is metal to be grabbed -- it'll go even faster.

White goods stickers are for pretty large items - air conditioners are the smallest things that qualify: http://www.somervillema.gov/departments/dpw/trash-procedures#White_Goods:_Large_Appliance_Disposal - so I'm pretty sure it's small enough to just be trash. My (broken) dehumidifier was small enough, and those are a lot larger than a disposal.

If you do make it visible instead of being in the bin, yes, good odds someone scrapping for metal will pick it up.
