need advice: vast tracts of women's clothing to unload

A relative with a clothes fetish and a changed life circumstance asked me to help her sell off a whole lot of good quality women's clothes (mostly blouses and dresses, size 8 to 14).  If I had, say, 3 or 4 items, I'd take them to a consignment shop, no big deal.  But 10' worth of closet pole is a couple hundred items - waaaaay too many to trot down to a shop for an eval - and I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed.

Anyone got advice for how to manage trying to sell off this kind of volume of clothes ?

The garment district pays cash for good, stain free clothes as long as they're vintage or fashionable. You might email them and try to make an appointment with a buyer.

They'll only a valuable 25 garments at a time and they won't take everything, even if it is in good repair, clean, and reasonably high quality.

I realize they won't take everything. That falls under the "fashionable" heading. A far as the 25 garment limit, that's why i recommended making an appointment if they're willing.

Buffalo Exchange will go through fairly large numbers of items at a stretch. I wouldn't be surprised if they'd do it all at once. If the stuff is really high end, though, you'll want to start with Found.

Seconding Buffalo Exchange. Try not to go on a weekend. It helps if you dress trendy and put on some weird accessories when you sell. (Don't go in your gym clothes.)

It's nice that you're doing this for your friend, because you kinda have to have thick skin to sell your clothes at place like Buffalo. It's totally hit or miss. Sometimes they don't buy stuff that I think is right up their alley. Other times I see crap on their racks that is shrunken, pilly and ugly.

Talk to Meredith from Poor Little Rich Girl. I think she buys collections and might be willing to come and look at the clothes on site. A lot of businesses of that type will come to you when there's enough merchandise for it to be worth their while. Anecdotally, I've gotten better return on my money working with PLRG than I have with other stores.
