On Friday, someone posted that Dr. Leavy had left Porter Square Vet. I had an appointment there on Saturday, so I took it upon myself to find out where she went.

She's at the Cat Hospital in Arlington.

She actually used to work there before. Me and my cats have followed her from (not sure about the order) Boston Cat Hospital, to The Cat Doctor, to Porter Sq Vet, and now back to The Cat Doctor. She's great, isn't she?

Hi, I am moving to Davis Square from Portland, OR and am looking for a great vet for my 3 cats. One was recently diagnosed as diabetic and her insulin was just discontinued, so I need to get her in asap. She and one of the others are also in desperate need of dental cleanings. Is Dr. Leavy the way to go? Is the Arlington Cat Hospital very expensive? I am not one to look for discount pet health care, but I have found that sometimes cat-only clinics are a bit pricey. I'm trying to get the best care possible for my cats without going to severely into debt for it.

Thanks!

Yeah, I don't have a car, though I'm kind of hoping I'll be able to borrow one for vet visits. If I can't, City Cats is about the same distance for me as Porter Square. Both require 1/3 mile walk and then City Cats is a 12 minute bus ride vs. a 4 minute bus ride for Porter Sq.

I've escaped kidney problems so far with my cats, but my diabetic cat also has terrible arthritis (slightly improved by Cosequin) and had radioactive Iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism a few years ago.

Cute icons... And thanks for the welcome. :)

Quite possibly, I think I first brought my cat to her about 10 years ago... though I still don't remember if it was the Cat Hospital first or the Cat Doctor... I think it was BCH.

Is the second drug Harri is on for the thyroid stuff? It sounds familiar. Is there a particular dr. at Porter Sq that you like? Anyone to avoid? I went to City Cats, but wasn't impressed. Plus it was expensive, even for Boston. Have you had dental work done at Porter Sq? Do they do blood work beforehand? X-rays?

Thanks a bunch for your help!

Okay, yeah, Casey was on that until she had the Iodine procedure done.

I am going to give Porter Sq. a call tomorrow. I am going to check on prices for Blood Glucose Curves (hopefully that will give me an idea of how they will compare to City Cats and to my Portland vet), and find out if they do x-rays before dental work. If they are cheaper, but don't do x-rays, I may go to them, but have dental work done at City Cats. The problem with not doing x-rays is that teeth that are bad on the inside but not visibly bad will be left in the mouth to cause problems later. I'd rather pay a bit more for x-rays than have to have more dental work done later.

Thanks so much for the info. Hopefully I can get Dr. Ryan.
