HONK! just around (and on) the corner!

Hi LJ folks-

I know there are lots of HONK! fans here (I've had the pleasure of meeting them at ArtBeat and on the ether) so I thought I would pass along a quick update we sent to our mailing list. Hope to see you there!

With summer’s imminent demise, if you are like us, you are looking longingly into the distance eagerly awaiting the return of HONK! (actually, here at HONK! central we are more likely scurrying around planning for the next HONK! but it is a lovely poetic image).

Yes, you heard that right, you'll be happy to know that your favorite festival of activist street bands will return this year for an ninth time.

HONK! 2014 will take place October 10th-12th (Columbus Day weekend)

This year we're bringing back many of your favorite bands to perform on the streets for an entire day of free music, take part in our huge parade down a major thoroughfare, join us for lantern parades at night in our neighborhoods, support a day of action and on and on... We've also have some new friends on the way from around the globe we know you'll want to meet.

As in previous years, there's no way we could pull off a 'a one-of-a-kind street spectacle of revolutionary proportions' like this without the tremendous support of our community. Without people like you, there's no way we could afford to help these musicians make the trip to our streets. This leads to the second thing we wanted to mention: we are again running a brief Kickstarter campaign to help us pay travel costs for all of the amazing musicians coming from around the world.

People who have contributed to our previous Kickstarter campaigns know that the backers of our project are some of the first people to hear about the great new stuff (bands, etc.) coming to our festival.

Yah, so sorry. HONK! is almost always on Columbus Day weekend (the one time it didn't happen that weekend was the one where it intersected Yom Kippur). It is not great timing for me either, so I understand your pain.

The one thing I don't see here is an announcement of the volunteer meeting, though I did get an email about that. You may want to make a new post for it.

Thanks, Ron. That's going to be going out as a separate message in the next few days. I'll repost it here when we send it. We definitely lurv our volunteers and appreciate everyone who helps out with HONK!

The e-mail I got from Shaunalynn Duffy says that the volunteer meeting is Sunday September 14 @ 6PM at Sprout, 339R Summer St.
