"An Orange Line station is expected to open in Somerville’s Assembly Square in a few weeks, the first new rapid transit rail station in 26 years."  http://www.bostonglobe.com/magazine/2014/08/15/mbta-orange-line-assembly-charlie-got-new-stop/WMtyWAiDZvyynV969FxMUK/igraphic.html

I got a photo of it just this weekend, for those who haven't seen it in situ yet. There's quite a nice view from the top of the garage next to the AMC theater, for anyone interested. I'm told it may have nice fireworks viewing....

does anyone know what's happening with buses to and from the new station?

I am, starting on Sept. 8th, going to teach the Wilton Method Cake Decorating at the AC Moore in Assembly. The orange line stop is great, though I won't use it (since I'll be coming from Magoun), but I'm wondering what changes it might make to the 90 (which drops off by Bed Bath and Beyond), and the 92 (which drops off at Staples).

Will there be any new routes? will either of the existing ones change?

I'd really like to see a little local that maybe went in a loop through 'Assembly Row Station > Assembly Square > Station Landing > Wellington > Gateway Center'.

This is the new Route 90 schedule. It's unchanged from the current one, except for minor tweaking of the Sunday departure times. There is no new Route 92 schedule.

Maybe the T is waiting for a few months of service to the new T station before changing bus routes.

If I walk it (unlikely on class nights, since I have a crapload to carry), the best instructions I see from my new place are to walk over to memorial, and cross at Shore, avoiding walking along Mystic for more than like, 40 feet.

No need to walk even that far along Mystic Avenue. There's a walkway directly opposite Shore Drive, through the Mystic housing development. This map may be helpful.

yes, I know. but the walking directions take me to Memorial and Mystic, and until I live in the neighbourhood, I'm not going to make assumptions about how people who already live in public housing will feel about me shortcutting through their property. I wouldn't do it to a private house, I won't assume to do it to them until I know it's acceptable.

It's actually not short-cutting. It's a legitimate walking path. I don't live in the area, so I've only walked it a few times, but there are signs designating the path.

Instead of that, I'd walk to the end of Meacham Street and down the stairs into the Mystic housing development, then across Mystic Ave onto Shore Drive. This map may be helpful.
