davis_squareOn October 11-12 (HONK! Festival weekend), the Red Line will be replaced by shuttle buses between Park Street and Kendall Square stations. The Longfellow Bridge will be closed in both directions to all wheeled traffic except for MBTA shuttle buses.
Pedestrians will still be able to cross the bridge on the downstream sidewalk, but bicycles must be walked. (The usual bicycle lanes won't exist while MBTA buses are going both directions on the bridge.)
According to the e-mail I got from MassDOT, "The diversion is necessary for MassDOT’s design/build contractor, White-Skanska-Consigli JV, to perform work in close proximity to the Red Line tracks that is not possible during MBTA service hours."
