Woohoo!! Very soon, I hope.

(FYI, your pictures aren't actually behind your lj-cut right now.)

After they spent so much work getting that zoning variance, too.

Nice!

We did not need a third fro-yo option right in the square, and from a big chain no less.

Whoever takes over this location needs to improve the façade, maybe by ripping it out and starting over. As currently built, this is a very uninviting storefront, and I bet this is one of the factors that caused Pinkberry to fail here.

I also think people are just more fond of iYo and Orange Leaf anyway.

Well, thanks, Pinkberry, for doing the hard work of converting a decrepit insurance office into a food establishment, so that someone who's not selling fro-yo can take it over and actually stick around for a bit.

Maybe the city should just zone one or two particular storefronts as designated "fad business of the year" spots. #DavisSnark

Oh man, could I sure enjoy some good Hot Pot this week!

I thought the place opening in the ex-McDonalds was going to be called "Hot Pot," and now the sign on the McD spot says something (from memory) like " mi ja". I'm curious if the people taking the larger space renamed from their initial concept, or if they moved up to the smaller space?

anyway, looking forward to them!

I thought the ex-McD's is supposed to be Bi Bim a Korean place?

The new Korean place where McD's used to be is called Meju, and it's a second location of the Bibim restaurant in Allston. They're opening this month, hopefully! (there's a sign in the window indicating a contractor stop-work issue, but the place looks nearly finished).

Hot pot / sushi is very different than the kind of food they have. I'm hoping this new place is another Little Q, but we'll have to just wait and see.

Is this going to be similar to Akai Ryu in Porter that opened last year?

Is Hot Pot the new FroYo?

(I hope so. It's certainly a lot tastier.)

What's the connection between Hot Pot and Sushi? Is it just a "North Asian specialty foods Americans like" restaurant? I noticed Q restaurant in Quincy also serves these two. (They have the same corporate overlord as Little Q in Arlington.) So maybe we're going to get another Q?

Correction. Little Q / The Q have local ownership. I got understandably confused because their logo is very similar to that of Little Sheep, which is a huge international Hot Pot chain.

Also Q is in Chinatown, not Quincy. Little Q originally opened in Quincy, (hence the name, I assume), but was forced to move.

Hot pot and sushi, or shabu-shabu and sushi, is a pretty common combination. E.g. Akai Ryu over in Porter.
