according to the MBTA web site, they will run the following services tomorrow:

- Red Line: between Alewife and Andrew
- Green Line: between Lechmere and Kenmore, plus the E branch as far as Symphony
- Orange Line: between North Station and Back Bay
- Blue Line: between Bowdoin and Airport

"Limited" shuttle bus service will substitute for most parts of the rail lines that are not running trains (but it looks like no bus service at all on the B branch beyond Packard's Corner)

Buses and commuter trains will run a Saturday schedule, since it is the President's Day holiday.

And don't forget that they're running on Sunday frequencies on the subway. I managed to catch a red line with 3 minutes' wait, but the one after that would have been 15 minutes.

I was luckier on the way back with just a 5 minute wait.

The trains were busy but not packed (all seats taken, a few standees).

So the countdown signs are working? That's great. All too often, when there's any kind of disruption, they're blank.

The 89 just isn't running. It's supposed to be, but it's not, or--if it is, it's not running reliably, so there's no knowing if one is going to come when it says it will or not. I am wondering if the MBTA looks good on paper for saying they are running buses when they aren't. If they had to cut service, I would forgive them more if they copped to it so we weren't waiting in the bitter cold for buses that just don't come.

Did you check Nextbus (or the prediction service of your choice)?

Of course it's best if buses run on time. But some problems today are understandable. It makes it much less worse when you check real-time predictions.

Yes, I did. On Thursday, I was at the Davis Square T at 10:45 am. The schedule said it would be there at 11:19am, Nexbus put it at 11:23 am. 11:23 am came and went, and the 89 never came. Nextbus just rolled over to the next time the bus was supposed to come. I was told by the 90 bus driver (eventually took the 90 and walked) that the 89 is not considered important, and that all the major lines would keep running. Today, I checked several times, and saw them roll over (I checked earlier today, saw one for 58 minutes, then 100 and some minutes, and then a minute or two later, it rolled over to the 100 and some minutes; at least this time, I would have known an hour in advance, except I now don't trust that the 89 will come at all, or at any given time if I schedule myself to use it).

Again, I would mind *less* if they did this if they would give us notice so we aren't just waiting for a bus that never comes; it renders this bus useless for planning. Honestly, I think it should be illegal to advertise a bus is going to be there and then not post it anywhere for folks to check in to see if it is still running as soon as possible if that information was, or could have been, available beforehand. I know they are struggling with money, but to simply not run a route with no notice whatsoever, especially in this weather? Oy.

Nextbus hasn't been working for me either. Normally it's my go-to thing, but my last set of bus predictions was uncorrelated with reality.
