This message is from Kara, who is organizing a large Katrina pet rescue effort in New England. I wish I could foster an animal, but I have two cats in a small apartment as it is. So the least I can do is pass her plea along to neighbors in Davis. If you can help, please contact her at the address under the cut.

The people of New England want to help the thousands of homeless animals displaced by Katrina ASAP. We are getting organized!

A group of volunteers from across the nation is forming a convoy system to get animals out of the affected areas so they can be fostered in people’s homes. The "assembly line" system is still being developed, but we hope to have a convey from Arlington, Texas to Boston, Massachusetts with major drop off/pick up points along the way every 4 or so hours.

My name is Kara and I am helping to coordinate the convoy/rescue effort in New England. If you want to help too, we need people in New England willing to foster displaced animals or offer logistical support. If you can help us, please email me back and answer the following questions.

-- Your name

-- Where you live in New England

-- Contact information (Email and telephone please)

-- Type of animal(s) you can foster

-- Number of animals you can foster

-- How far you would drive to pick up an animal

-- If you are willing to pay $50 to $75 to fly an animal to you (major cities only)

-- If you can offer any logistical help, like driving in the convoy, donating crates, or paying for someone else’s animal to fly to New England.

Please send your answers to: katrinapets@yahoo.com

Thank you so much. Let’s save these lost pets now!

If you are bringing your own pet in from another state, or if you buy pets for yourself from another state and bring them home - you are OK.

It only affects rescue groups, shelters, and pet stores - groups that are going to distribute pets in the state.
