What's up w/ all the bunnies?

In the last few months, I have noticed a large number of rabbits in the area. They're all over the bike path between Davis and Cedar and now I see them running around between houses. Any thoughts on why there are so many these days? Does it have anything to do with fewer rats in the area?

I've been wondering if part of it has to do with the fewer outdoor cats than there were twenty years ago. Our neighborhood used to have about a dozen outdoor cats and now it has 1/2. (Our elderly cat only deigns to go out when the weather is _just_ right.)

It was a good year for bunnies for some reason. Sometimes the conditions are just right so that food is plentiful and many of the young survive. That'll happen with squirrels or certain birds, or insects, too, in any given year. It's just that bunnies are a lot more noticeable. It's just bunny's time!

I've been seeing lots of bunnies on the Cambridge side of the line, and my sweetie says he's seeing bunnies up on the North Shore at his mom's as well as by his place in Newton.

Meanwhile, I haven't seen a single gosling this year. Not one, anywhere. Plenty of adult geese, the occasional duck family, no goslings.

Yes. The Goose family was at our yoga class on Saturday. I can confirm this.

There's a different family over on the Shore Dr. side too.

I haven't seen many bunnies this year at all. But that might be because I put a fence around my veggies this year!

The young seem to have recently gotten out of the nests. Lots of little bunnies around, and they're really stupid, they barely know to run from people.
