Big hole in Teele Square

Curious:

Any recent developments on that big hole in the ground in Teele Square? Last I heard there was residential/commercial development on the table but the property required environmental remediation.

Its function is to serve as a constant source of Parks and Rec references, of course!

If you go to the planning board reports and type in "Broadway" and "1154", there's a bunch of data for what looks to me like the right site, but the latest update there is from August 2014. I'm not sure where to look for more recent data, but thank you for prompting me to look that up -- I hadn't known there was even a proposal.

The latest document there is a zoning approval, dated September 24, 2014. So whatever's holding up this project, it's not the city's planning or zoning board.

Time to ask the Ward 7 alderman? If you do, let us know what she says.

I asked the City of Somerville on Facebook, and got this reply:

Hi Ron, There had been a proposal and buyer for the site, but the buyer has since decided not to purchase the property. There may be interest from another party, and we expect to know more later in the year.

I emailed Katjana and she said:

"Thank you for your email. This site is a common question for many. Since 2014 there have been some potential buyers however the negotiations fell through. I've been in contact with property owner and at time with one of the lawyers, however nothing a materialized.

As of today there is a potential buyer who reached out to me to include me in on their hope to purchase the property. This new, and I will know probably beginning of November if the sale goes through. The project would be similar to the one from 2014, commercial on the first floor and residential on the tops floors."
