Opa Gyros coming to Davis Square

I saw some folks today working inside the former Kickass Cupcakes at 378 Highland Avenue, near the corner of Cutter Ave. They told me that a gyros shop called Opa will open there soon -- they hope by mid-October.

On the topic of new restaurants in Davis, I feel like I heard a rumor about what's actually going into the "coffee shop preferred" commercial rental space in Community Credit Union, but I can't for the life of me remember where I read it, or what it said. Anyone?

A local independent donut shop to be called "Davis Square Donuts" -- see this post and that post.

The zoning board of appeals approved it on August 5.

There's more info in this article (http://boston.eater.com/2015/8/19/9176997/davis-square-doughnuts-somerville) from Eater. Sounds like it won't be opening until the end of the year, at the earliest. The owner describes what they want to do as similar to Union Square Donuts.

Dang. For a moment I got really excited for a gyro place in the neighborhood, but then I remembered that I don't eat meat anymore. Sigh.

There seems to be such a thing as a vegetarian gyros, so perhaps they'll sell them?

When I was a vegetarian, I got veggie gyros all the time; a lot of Greek places make them with grilled eggplant or just grilled vegetables instead of the meat.
