I wonder if they priced themselves out of the market; I feel like the alternatives now are big box stores like Dick's and Moddel's. I feel like a lot of sports/exercise items you would want to buy in person and not online

Dick's is in Natick. That's not very far for a type of shopping that most people are only going to do once or twice a year.

Even people with cars shouldn't have to travel 20 miles to go clothing shopping if they live in a populated area. And for people without cars, forget it.

People have plenty of options for clothing all over the place.

I was thinking the same thing. I used to shop at City Sports all the time but I went in a few months ago and couldn't believe how expensive everything was. I just wanted a light jacket and couldn't find anything under $150. And I didn't find much variety. Instead I went to Marshall's and found what I was looking for. They've been really upping their "leisure wear" and athletic gear selection of late.
Some other entity is going to have to step in and start selling actual sports equipment like basketballs, etc for people who don't have cars.
I will miss their shoe selection, though. That was pretty much the last item that I still shopped for at City Sports.

There is also a Modells in Medford. And Dicks in Saugus and Dedham. There is Sports Athority a number of locations close by too.

I find those stores to all be much more affordable than City Sports. I haven't bought anything in City Sports in years. But bought from Modells in Medford, recently.
