i second supershag... great instructors. whatever you do, don't go with one of the chain places like fred asatire... they charge a fortune and turn out only so-so dancers. they're more for couples looking to learn a few moves for their wedding.
I like Ken Kreshtool (gottadance.org). He's a great teacher, reasonably priced, and T-accessible; right in Harvard Square. His fall term started last Wed, but you can join in the second week if you like.
Note, unlike swing or salsa, most people taking ballroom do so as part of a couple, so it's not quite as friendly to go to a class by yourself as it would be if you were taking swing or salsa. I have friends who've found class partners via Craig's list; I suppose you could do so through LJ Davis_Square, though this seems to be a much smaller community.
A lot of the colleges here have a ballroom club ( usually taught by people from their competition team ) where they have casual lessons on a certain night. And only a few people show up as couples.
Harvard's has a series that's starting this week: http://www.harvardballroom.org/club.html
Tufts' club is starting tonight apparently: http://www.tufts.edu/as/stu-org/ballroom/
MIT also has a club like that, plus one for swing and one for Argentine Tango
