davis_squareHello neighbors! I am a long-time lurker... but this cause seems like a good thing to post about here. I checked the guidelines and think I'm all clear, but if this is in any way against the rules, my apologies, and by all means, take it down!
Davis Square-based open community street band/organization School of HONK has launched an end-of-year campaign on Indiegogo's non-profit platform, Generosity. Our goal comes in two parts: to continue to grow our community, and to raise $5000, which will put us in a great place to kick off our 2016 plans including after school programming, weeknight sectionals, and other additional opportunities to play.

A bit of background on School of HONK.....

First started in October of 2014, School of HONK is an open community street band for all ages and experience levels (including total beginners) that meets every Sunday. We arrange music with the aim of getting everyone dancing/grooving, and also with the intentionality of making our songs accessible to everyone from beginner to life-long-player. After our weekly practices, we parade (even through the winter..)! Maybe you've seen us around Davis. We currently run on donations alone; School of HONK is free and open to all, and it's missionally important to SoH's founders to keep it that way!
As mentioned above, in 2015 we began offering after school sessions for kids in a few area schools, ran a music summer camp for local kids, and expanded our offerings to our Sunday afternoon participants via weekday sectionals and other events. Our group has expanded to 50-60 musicians showing up each week, and many more individuals showing up throughout the course of the year (as we have no real membership or attendance requirements, it's a different set of people every week!).
Help support us as we bring free music to the streets of Somerville and expand our community to even more people. Join us any Sunday from 3-5pm (location changes occasionally.. check our website for next week's meeting spot), and/or donate to our campaign!
