The Green Line Extension Project Working Group will meet to hear from the State:
Friday, Feb 5, 10am-12pm
The Center for Arts at the Armory
191 Highland Ave.
This meeting will be open to public comments. Please come show support for the Green Line Extension -- make sure your voice is heard as we fight for a Green Line Extension to serve our community.
You will also hear:
- Where things stand right now, including next steps and timelines
- Preliminary redesign concepts - an early peek at some of the
options they're exploring to bring down costs
- Project budget overview
Two proposals are of particular concern:
1. Eliminating the Union Square station. The substitutes considered -- shuttle buses, a commuter rail stop, single track light rail shuttle to Lechmere -- provide much less desirable service and could hamstring the planned development of Union Square / Boynton Yards. These alternatives had previously been evaluated and rejected during earlier planning.
2. Relocating the Community Path. Portions may be forced onto roadways shared with cars and trucks, and it is not clear how the Path could cross the Fitchburg Line near Brickbottom.

Date: 2016-02-04 02:45 pm (UTC)But I agree 100% with Somerville STEP: "Somerville has already paid for the GLX. We have paid with decades of poor public transit service in the Massachusetts city with the greatest population density per square mile. We have been paying since the Commonwealth ripped apart our neighborhoods to build I-93 and knowingly introduced serious air pollution burdens that significantly impact the health of our population today. We’ve paid by enduring this project’s mismanagement and perpetual delays."
We need this project built.
