Transcribe Interview from MP3 File

I'm volunteering for my Buddhist center to transcribe interviews, which are in MP3 format. Does anyone have a transcription foot pedal I could plug into my PC? Or does anyone have suggestions for typing/transcribing the interview on a PC? I'm trying to avoid having to keep switching from my Word document to the media screen to stop, pause, rewind the interview. Thanks much!

I transcribe (extensively) in Scrivener, using split-screen mode, so that your writing is on the top part of the window, and the audio file is on the bottom. It is great software in general for writers (although I'm not familiar with the Windows version), but if you just want to use it for this project, the 30 day free trial should do it for you.

Thank you so much - very helpful! A friend also suggested Transcribe. It seems similar to Scrivener. There are many hours of interviews, so it will take me more than seven days to transcribe given that I'm doing this during off hours. Transcribe is $20 per year. Just wondering if you've used Transcribe?

I don't know anything about Transcribe. Scrivener is a robust writing software, not specific to transcription at all, but very useful for it in my experience. Since the trial is 30 days it may give you some extra time.

I have an older Olympus foot pedal. I haven't used in a few years, but if you can find the software (it's free, I think it's Olympus DSS something), you're welcome to borrow it.

Thanks so much, Sarah! I can use a foot pedal with the Transcribe module. From what I can tell, I just plug it into my USB port. Does your Olympus foot pedal plug into a USB port? Theresa
