Hello!
My partner and I are moving to Davis square soon, and are looking for PCPs accepting new patients now. We are both foreign and a bit inexperienced (specially me!)

Any recommendations/advice is much appreciated.

Thanks!
Mo

Welcome!

We've had mostly-good experiences at Cambridge Health Alliance, but I don't know which of their PCPs is currently accepting new patients.

Harvard Vanguard is a large local group practice filling a whole office building in Davis Square (as well as other locations).

Mt Auburn has affiliated physicians at Davis Square Family Practice. A friend of mine vouches for them as being queer and trans friendly, but I see a doc at the main Mt Auburn location.

Tangent: Is it a coincidence that your username is almost the Finnish word for "hospital"?

Total coincidence. It's my actual name, "Saira Ali," without the space.

I see Deb Bershel there. I like her very much. She always seems interested in ongoing good health all around, not just the physiological item that brought me in. But she always handled my specific items appropriately too. I'm a scientist, and I research and check stuff she tells me. It's always in line with the current and correct standards of care.

At Davis Square Family Practice, the only PCP is Deb Bershel, but you can see any of the nurse practitioners there as your doctor. Dr Bershel is most definitely queer/trans friendly and open to alternative techniques.

Highly recommend the doctors at Ball Square Family Medicine (on Broadway just past Ball Square, but close enough to be reasonable for Davis Square)! They're outstanding, every one of them. I see Dr. Lee, primarily, but I've seen all of them at one point or another and they're wonderful.

We like Somerville Family Practice a lot. I'd also like to share that a lot of people I know had a very negative experience with CHA (Cambridge Health Alliance) billing. In fact it was such a nightmare for my husband he switched doctors and we're now all happily at Somerville Family Practice. Not sure if they accept new patients though.

I have never-ending love for Davis Square Family Practice. I see Michelle and she's wonderful, and I've also heard nothing but amazing things about Deb. Besides the quality of medical care itself, I also like that it's a small place--I feel like I know the various nurses and admins and such.

I see Dr. Nancy Akbari at Mt. Auburn Hospital. She's a very good PCP and is certainly queer-friendly. The whole Mt. Auburn system has given me nothing but good experiences. I don't know what your transportation situation is but it is easy to get there on a bus from Harvard Square. Good luck, and welcome!

I've been happy with all of my experiences at Harvard Vanguard -- I like the one-stop shopping.
