I'm a writer looking for a good coworking space nearby. (Well, nearby is relative. I just don't want to schlep all the way downtown to WeWork) Don't need anything fancy, just desk space and wifi to get me out of the house. Any leads would be greatly appreciated!

Well, I work for CIC, which is in Kendall Square. It's not the cheapest option on the market, but the benefits may be worth it depending on what you're looking for.

I think there's also a Workbar in Central Square. I've never gone inside and don't really know anything beyond that.

The company I work for started out in the CIC, and it's a really nice space. As 3rdragon says, it's not the cheapest. but it's a really nice space with great amenities.

Also on the Red Line, but further from Davis is WeWork, across from South Station. Our company HQ is now located in the WeWork in NYC, but we've had meetings in the South Station site, and, while not quite as swanky as CIC, it too is quite a good location.

Workbar in Arlington might be a good option to check out.

I walk past Workbar in Central frequently as my office is across the street from it. It looks cozy and well appointed.

I just saw an article about these the other day. But I haven't used any of them personally:

There's TechHub in Davis Square (in the Citizens Bank building).

TechHub has rebranded as Canopy City, but they're still there, in the Citizens Bank building.

Also, a place called Cove just opened up in Union Square. It looks new and techy.

I'm a Workbar member, though I typically use the Boston office, not the Central Square, Arlington or Union Square offices. They emphasize different sections of the space for different workstyles and they spend time trying to build community. All the spaces are well designed.

Canopy City is lower cost and it's right here in Davis, but the space is less designed. I think they inherited cubicles from the company that had the space before them.

I haven't worked out of Cove in Union Square but I have used one of their DC spaces. They're also lower cost and cater particularly well to drop-in or part-time use.

library?

When I need to get out of the house to work, I often go to the local library. It's quiet, and somehow seeing books around me motivates me to write/get work done.

Off Topic

I'm sorry if this is off topic, but I always wanted to start my own coworking space. Anyone know how much commercial spaces like Canopy.City cost (a.k.a Techbar)?
