davis_squareEDIT 5/26/16: This event has been cancelled, at least for the time being. They were not able to assemble enough players in time.
An e-mail from the Somerville Arts Council:
Roger Miller, the Somerville Arts Council, and the Somerville Public Schools Music Department seek local musicians to become a part of a “Davis Square Symphony.” Roger Miller of acclaimed Mission of Burma has produced a 25 minute score and silent film derived from impressions of Davis Square during four seasons and five locations.
Richard Romanoff, SPS music teacher and conductor, will lead this public symphony which will perform to the silent film.
Specifically, we need community members to join High School performers to create a “Davis Square Symphony” for this special score and occasion. This orchestra welcomes all levels of performers. The score is accessible and we envision this as a fun and collaborative experience.
We need violins, violas, cellos, basses, clarinets, alto sax, flute, French horn, trumpet, trombones, and percussion. Will you join us in this adventure?
Under the esteemed direction of Richard we will hold three evening rehearsals in June leading up to a public performance on June 17th in Davis Square/7-hills Park.
Rehearsal will be in held in the band room of Somerville High School, 81 Highland Ave, on Thursdays June 2nd, 9th, and 16th from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Will you participate in this fun and exciting opportunity? You can DO IT.
