Hey everyone, I've got a sick kitty that I need to take to the vet today. I've had great success with Angell-Memorial, but I'm hoping someone knows a good vet locally (that doesn't charge emergency prices, aka $90/visit, like Memorial does). Anyone in the Davis/Somerville/Cambridge area that you personally love? Since I'm a nervous mom can you also let me know how long you've been seeing them and what kind of pet you have (for reference)? Thanks!!

We like Dr. Parker at the Porter Square Vet, which is actually on Summer St.
quite near the diner in Davis. We have been to them several times with our
cat, Sherlock and everyone there from the receptionist to the techs to the
doctors are obvious pet people...very helpful and friendly.

I have tried several places in the area, and the Porter Square people are
much better in numerous ways - quicker appointments(often same day),
lower prices, nicer people, good location.

A second vote here on Dr. Parker, he's lovely and intelligent and a cat owner himself.

Dr. Weiner at Cambridge Veterinary Care on Mass Ave is great! Dunno about emergency services, though.

Okay, so, yes: Replying to a two-year-old comment. :)

I'm avoiding Porter Square vet because it's had too many mixed reviews, and the other day I noticed Dr. Weiner's practice as I walked down Mass Ave. May I ask if you're still using him as your vet? Is there anything in particular that you like about him?

I'm looking for someone who will actually listen to me, respect me, and acknowledge that I might have valid and intelligent input about my animal's care; who will be willing to answer all my questions and explain his own reasoning; who will not pooh-pooh my desire to minimize the amount of chemicals that go into my animal where possible; who will under no circumstances act like a company sales rep for whatever for brand of food his office keeps on its shelves; and of course, who will be kind, gentle, and thorough with my animal. Too much to ask? :)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Second the vote for Porter Sq Vets (which is actually in Davis). They take care of my two cats and were also there when my aged cat had to be put to sleep. Very caring, very professional folks.

I've been taking my boys there since I moved here in 2000, and now my bf takes his girl kitten there, too. I love Porter Sq. Vet...

i love porter square vet, which is actually in davis. i have 1 cat, and hav e been taking him there since his fiurst birthday, a little over a year ago. Miles had a brother, Ivan, who died last year from FIP. They treated me really wonderfully during his drawn out illness. They were helpful and compassionate and did basically everything they could for Ivan and for me.

Another recommendation for Porter Sq. Vet, though my vet (Dr. Leavey) just left there and I'm following her back to The Cat Doctor in Arlington (I've followed her across 3-4 practices in the past 10 years).
