Are you a director? Would you like to be one?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to direct a play? Or, are you more of a behind-the-scenes crew groupie, say a makeup artist or an art designer or such? If the answer is yes, I'd like to speak with you. No experience is necessary, other than the desire to be involved in a national grassroots festival.


On behalf of a community theatre company near Davis Square, I'm gearing up to possibly produce a series of seven short plays (running about an hour combined) during the third week of September. It would be part of a national grassroots festival called 365 Days/365 Plays, encompassing over 600 theatre companies across the U.S. and Canada. Chelsea's TheatreZone was one of the earlier local participants, with their seven plays last fall; other groups such as the Lyric Stage and the American Rep are also involved.

The proposed schedule is I would select 2-3 directors (each director would be in charge of 2-3 plays) in June, and to hold auditions during the first week of August. I presume that each director wouldn't need more than 3-6 rehearsals. Then, the performances would likely be the weekend of Sept. 23.

this sounds like an amazing project!

i'm a graduating college senior who's been doing theater since i was 12...and i'm moving to somerville in may. i'm thrilled to hear that there's a community theater group nearby.

especially one that does amazing things like this!

i think i'd like to audition...are those open to the public? or just company actors?

Not to steal thunder from Ari's project, but there are open auditions next month for our (theatreatfirst's) summer show. Details are availablehere (http://www.theatreatfirst.org/current/one-acts07/one-acts07.htm) and it will certainly be possible to participate in both productions.
