Last night at around 11 we went down to JP Licks to get some ice cream, then sat in the square while we ate it all up. A car drove by blasting "Because you loved me." Just some dude cruising around, sharing some Celine Dion with the neighborhood. While walking back to our apt at about 11:30, there he went again, with the Titanic theme. Then at about midnight, we hear "'Cause I'm your laaaadeeeeeee..." drive past our apt.

First it was funny, then it was weird, then I couldn't decide 'cause it takes a special kind of man to be comfortable with blasting that whole album. I was really just curious where he was headed, 'cause it sounded like he did circles around Davis/Teele/Powderhouse/Ball squares for an hour.

Where do you suppose he was going?

I'm guessing he lost a bet, or was doing a sociological experiment to see how people would react to a man listening to Celine. Or maybe he just wanted to annoy all those artsy types. ;)

Where do you suppose he was going?

My guess would be either "Right in Front of You", or "Four Steps Away From Here".

Maybe he's the same guy that I once heard at 2am driving up Highland. I could hear the bass before the actual song - turns out it was "Tiny Dancer" by Elton John. I didn't even realize that song had a strong base line...

i heard all three occurances myself, as they drove past my apartment and aaaalmost posted about it. i was cracking up alone here in my room. i wished i could share the sheer goofiness of it with someone!

well, if i were a 19-year-old tufts student, and i wanted to smoke this, like, kind bud that this dude at the mixer sold me, but i had a totally lame roommate who wasn't down with the 420, that's probably the first solution i'd come up with. but what the hell do i know.

My guess is that he had some sort of psychotic breakdown and was cruising around blasting Celine and looking for squirrels to run over.

He drove by my apartment all three times, and I thought perhaps I'd died and gone to Hell.

(Actually, I thought he was just having a really crappy time finding a parking space.)

You have the best LJ user-name I've ever seen. Let's hear it for Sextus!

Oh, I wish I had it in me just to say thanks and take the credit! Unfortunately, my LJ name isn't a reference to Mr. Empiricus or Pyrrhonism. It's a reference to scansion, of two unstressed syllables together in metrical verse. It's often spelled pyrrhic, but the book I use as my main reference (Poetic Meter and Poetic Form by Paul Fussell) spells it pyrric.

Breathtaking

My sincerest gratitude. The album is simply incredible. My drive had ended but the music had not.

This left no choice but to drive around the Square until Celine released my heart.

I just love it when people decide to share their music with everyone.

Maybe he's in unrequited love with a Celine fan in the neighborhood. This was his interpretation of serenading under her window, to win her luuurve.

Now I'm picturing someone trying to do his best John Cusack impersonation, only with a car stereo lifted over his head.

Nowadays, wouldn't he lift his iPod Mini over his head?

was it a red sports car with silver stripes on it? (some kind of camaro knock-off type thing, or maybe an actual camaro)

Former Ithacan? I'd swear that's the Chapterhouse logo.

nope. it's part of the logo for the original production of "sweeney todd". i edited out mrs lovett's hand holding sweeney's jacket-corner, but other than that, it's stock.

if we let people drive around listening to Celine, then the terrorists have won.
