Rent / Borrow motorcycle April 24-26

Hi folks,

I'm looking to make a motorcycle trip out to Suffield,CT next weekend with a friend.  He's from out of the country (Japan) and does not have a motorcycle here.

I'm interested in renting a motorcycle and none of the motorcycle shops in the area do rentals.  I'm wondering if anyone in the area has a motorcycle that's in good enough shape to make it safely to and from Suffield, CT and would be willing to rent or let me borrow it.

The point of the trip is to attend a vintage BMW motorcycle "tech weekend".  We will be working on and repairing older air-cooled BMW motorcycles - and we can trade use of the bike for a tune-up (fluid changes and the like) or for cash.  I'm not looking for anything fancy, just something that will get from Davis Square to Suffield CT and back in one piece - preferrably at least 600cc.  If it's an air-cooled BMW then that's ideal since there will be plenty of expertise on these bikes on hand at the event.

I need the bike from April 24-April26 (next weekend Friday-Sunday).

If anyone has a bike they're willing to rent / lend in exchange for repairs or knows of someplace that rents motorcycles I'd be interested.  

If anyone has an older BMW "airhead" motorcycle and are interested in attending the event (regardless of whether you have a motorcycle to spare), please let me know.  We'll probably be leaving Davis Square on Friday afternoon and returning Sunday early evening.

Unfortunately, in general, an individual would be foolish to rent his/her motorcycle to an unknown party because of liability and a host of other reasons.

Duncan's Beemers in Maynard used to rent BMWs (including - indeed mostly - airheads) although my understanding is that he no longer does. MaxBMW (North Hampton, NH) maybe does rent bikes but probably nothing old enough for your liking. Also, are you a member of the nedod mailing list? You probably should be!

ETA: There's also Eaglerider (http://www.eaglerider.com/ ) although their Boston-area franchise only rents HDs.

Thanks for the reply - I contacted Duncan's Beemers and also MaxBMW but both no longer rent as you mentioned. Duncan was willing to sell me and buy back a bike but that would have been too expensive.

I'm mostly looking to buy a second bike now early this week. If you know of any reasonably priced air cooled BMWs locally I'd appreciate the help.

I think I spoke to someone once who metioned nedod - is it new england denizens of doom? I just googled it and found the ascii faq with ascii logo from usenet. Good Stuff.
