I know this is weird, but if the person who put a sprig of lilac flowers on my motorcycle last night, while it was parked caddy-corner from Rite-Aid from 9-1 AM, is here and reading this, would you please explain why you did it?

It seemed kind of sweet like - oh, flowers, how lovely. I didn't see any lilac bushes around where I parked (though admittedly it was dark). So I started thinking about why the person had them in the first place, and why my bike was the target of this gesture. Then it occurred to me that it might have been done in some environmentalist sort of statement, which I guess I would find more annoying than sweet.

Whoever did it, thank you for giving me something to mull over on the ride home, but it's such a riddle now, so please, ease my suffering :) (also if you're going to mess with my bike, this is a more acceptable method than most, so thanks for that, i think)

I love whimsy. If you don't get a response, I'd run with the notion that someone felt like being random and whimsical. That's a nice assumption to make in this nutty world.

I've done things like that, I'll confess -- my friend [livejournal.com profile] enochs_fable and I were walking down a Somerville street one night and saw a car in a driveway with a ton of awesome, geeky bumper stickers. So I left a note telling them so. I hope they appreciated it.

I pass that car often on Boston Avenue, and I always wonder about the owner(s)!

WELL, I think they just have about everything covered. Unfortunately, that car only has 300 miles on it- its owners are too busy levelling their ret pallys, saging 4chan, writing Tifa-Starbuck fanfic and fansubbing old episodes of Voltron (simultaneously!) to actually get out and drive it.

It was! Geekiest. Car. EVAR.

Love it.

I wish there were peel-offable bumperstickers, so when you got tired of them, you could get them off easily without having to take a razor to the car.

I've done things like that - sometimes it just means I was tired of carrying around the flowers and they seemed a shame to waste.

It wasn't me, but I'm glad it cheered you up (at least initially).

Life is much easier if you assume positive motivations for other people's actions whenever you can.

Don't read too much into it. I would be delighted if it happened to me. It was probably just a random act of kindness.

Also a senseless act of beauty!
Two for the price of one.

It wasn't me, but I would totally do something like that. Because flowers are awesome and bikers are awesome and these two awesomes should be together :).

(PS motorcycles get wicked high MPG, to the point where 40 MPG is considered pretty bad, so most folks who bother to think that far consider them somewhat green; the counterpoint is the emissions aren't as good since most bikes are carbureted rather than FI, but I think in the balance they're at least no worse than a modern car)

Possible paranoid answer:

I imagine someone with severe pollen allergies was blinded by sneezes and eyes swollen shut, and happened to mistake your motorcycle for a vase. Happens all the time!

(Really, I sincerely doubt it was anything other than an act of spring-induced whimsy. I wouldn't fear for your tires or anything)
