Per the Boston Globe:  Capuano joins Clark, will skip Trump’s inauguration

So who is going to the Boston Women's March for America on Saturday? Do you have your Pussy Hat ?

It will be a balmy 47 degrees. Come walk the Freedom (from bigotry, bullying and misogyny) Trail!

Thank you!

And, yes, a pithy sign is of utmost importance. I went a little nuts at Michaels in Porter Square and bought several shades of pink and red felt + Sharpies + sturdy poster board + wooden handles + a hot pink feather boa. I am making a pussy-themed sign with a "read my lips" slogan of yet-to-be-determined pith.

Just so you know, I've read today that organizers are now expecting something like 60K marchers just in Boston, and thus are upping the security. That means no big bags or backpacks and no signs on sticks (but foamcore handles might work). You might also want to look into procuring clear plastic tote bags or backpacks for carrying things with you. Local department stores or sporting goods stores might have them (the operative term is "NFL stadium approved").

I haven't see anything about backpacks and signs on sticks in regards to the Boston march. But I have seen those restrictions on the Women's March in DC. This week, to be on the safe side, I ordered a cheap, clear, plastic backpack from Amazon and scrounged some cardboard tubes (from wrapping paper) to use as "sticks." But I'll probably stick with the wooden ones I bought at Michael's if I don't see an official ban because wood is so much sturdier. It never hurts to be prepared : )

Their FAQ http://bostonwomensmarchforamerica.org/4184-2/ specifically says backpacks are allowed. They say "public safety officials always reserve the right to prohibit items they feel may impact public safety," which statement is intended to cover all contingencies without giving actual useful information.

As of this morning, that FAQ says the city has requested no backpacks. Does anyone know where I can get that sort of plastic backpack around here on short notice? (I can fit quite a bit into the pockets of my ski parka, but don't want to have to unzip it to get at snacks and such.)

I was trying to find where I'd seen it on Facebook yesterday and just managed to dig it up now. Someone posted this in the Progressive Democrats of Massachusetts group:

Please read (this info came from an email to Community Partners):
"With the larger-than-expected crowd we are now anticipating, we are increasing security protocols for the safety of everyone. Please note that in the interest of everyone's public safety, the City of Boston strongly discourages bringing large backpacks or other bags. Furthermore, we have received additional guidance that marchers should avoid bringing signs on poles or wooden sticks. Public safety officials have the authority to confiscate any materials they view as a potential threat to safety."

I'm going to the DC protest, and my sign will say "My pussy, my choice!"
