Hey, y'all, I rarely use LJ anymore, but I know the Davis community is pretty active, and we live just down the street, so I thought I'd risk posting here about our housemate search. :)
Our household is located on the Somerville/Cambridge line, MA, next to Porter Square.
4 housemates (new housemate will be the 5th)
2 friendly cats
5 bedrooms
1 huge dining room/kosher kitchen combo
1 smaller eat-in kitchen that's not kosher
3 full bathrooms (2 large bathtub/shower, 1 with huge shower stall)
1 living room (possibly to be repurposed as work/gaming space)
1 entertainment room (with projector TV screen, BluRay DVD player, & TiVo)
1 small office
2 sets of free washers/dryers for laundry in the basement
huuuuuge library of books & dvds
We are four housemates looking for a fifth to fill the available room in our house.
Steve and Crystal are the owners of the house, and have installed several fun quirks within it. Steve is a computer geek with a penchant for Babylon 5. He gets along with anyone, lends a listening ear with skill, and plays a good Mount & Blade. Crystal is an activist, massage therapist, scifi geek, and folk music aficionado.
Mike is also a big sci-fi fan, gamer, and is a frequent cast member of the Post-Meridian Radio Players. He's honest and often insightful.
Brian is a bioengineering postdoc at MIT who enjoys capoeira and cooking a variety of exciting foods. He's a sucker for a good period piece, and has recently started watching Penny Dreadful so he can stare at Eva Green's eyebrows.
We are all relatively adult people, and are looking for same. We tend to eat meals together around once or twice a week, sometimes just popping kettle corn while watching a movie and sometimes making a fancy dinner together.
We keep a very friendly and open household -- we and our friends identify across a spectrum of genders, religions, sexual identities, political convictions, and musical inclinations. We proudly fly a rainbow flag outside. Anyone who isn't comfortable with that wouldn't be comfortable here.
The house is about a three minute walk from Porter Square, three stories tall. Rent for the available bedroom is $925, INCLUDING heat and hot water, plus a free parking spot in the driveway if desired. Shared monthly expenses are electric, internet & cable tv, shared groceries, and regular professional house cleaning. (We never fight over the cleanliness of the bathroom!) Solar power on the roof saves us a bit of money every month. We are a farm share drop-off point during the farming season, and get bushels of fresh fruit and vegetables from that (free!). We also have a new dishwasher, two sets of clothes washers & driers, and an extensive array of impressive kitchen gadgets and handyman tools. Outside, there's a small grilling area and garden.
The house is recently renovated on nearly all fronts -- new bathrooms, new heating system, new flooring, new stairs, new electric wiring, new roof, etc. If we never have another renovation project, it may be too soon... particularly now that we've installed the solar panels on the roof.
We prefer that you not be a smoker (neither tobacco nor marijuana), as there is no smoking in the house. We would probably not fit well with you if you are a total neat-freak about common space, but neither would we do well with a tornado-making slob, so somewhere in the middle is best.
If all this sounds like a place you'd be excited to live in, and people you'd like to live with, please drop us a line and tell us a bit about yourself. We'll set up an interview, probably over dinner, and show you around.
