We waited so long for a decent tenant in the old Social Security building space and now it appears that it is at risk. Hard to tell from the article what is going on except than that the "concept" is in trouble.

Stop & Shop to rebrand bfresh chain, close 1 store

I like bfresh. I went there more when it first opened (and yes, when its prices were lower) but I still go there a few times a month. It was never going to be a "first choice" grocery store. That, of course, is Market Basket. But I will happily pay a bit more for the convenience when I need to.

Like Ron quoted on the other entry on this topic: Ahold also said that its two Bfresh stores that remain open in Somerville and Austin [sic], Mass., and its Eastside Market store in Providence, R.I., would be integrated into Ahold’s Stop & Shop brand, based in Quincy, Mass.

My reading of that is: the Davis Square store will remain open, but may be re-branded and tweaked somewhat.

Yes, perhaps it will remain – although the last graph in that BG story shows just how mercurial these business decisions are:

"Last year, a bfresh in Fairfield, Conn., closed just months after opening, with the company saying the location was “not suitable for the bfresh concept,” according to the Fairfield Daily Voice."
