Davis seems like a bad place for a bank robbery. The streets are narrow and there’s lots of traffic. It would be hard to get away.

I'm rolling my eyes at that headline: "Alleged shooter still at large"

If someone fires a gun in a bank and we haven't arrested the person who did it, there's no "alleged" about it.

It's alleged that he shot a gun. Leaving aside the legal need to say alleged, it's not like we've seen tape of a person shooting a gun. There's one report that he shot it. He may not have; it's not like these reports are always accurate. Thus, alleged.

The cops were the scary part. Hordes of them, in full swat gear, with assault rifles, wandering into stores and office buildings in Davis and demanding workplaces let them in to search for the guy. But what would have happened if they'd seen him in one of those workplaces? All they had were assault rifles! If they'd seen him -- or thought they'd seen him -- while 15 overarmed cops were in an office building, how many people might have gotten hurt or killed?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favor of police officers searching for and stopping an armed robber. Burglars who shoot guns in banks are dangerous. But the disproportionate response from a militarized police department who were there for hours was terrifying.

That's upsetting, I didn't hear about that part.
