Parkway Sunoco and second opinions

Does anyone have an opinion about Parkway Sunoco. I've gotten work done there before and been satisfied but Eli there wants a *lot* of money to fix a car that we're not planning on having much longer. Would you get a second opinion? Where else would you go for a second opinion?

Failing that, um, does anyone want to buy me a car?

Good News Garage, near Central, is run by one of the Car Talk Guys. I took my car there for years and always felt that I was getting straight talk.

These days I go to Streetwise, which is about a mile up Somerville Ave-ish from Porter. I've been very happy with them too.

And yes, I would definitely get a second opinion. A good mechanic will take into consideration how much longer you're going to have the car, and will give you options. Say, $3k of work and it'll run forever, $1k will be enough for a trade-in, $500 will limp you through for the next 3 months and then you can trash it. That kind of thing.
