I know there have been threads about this topic before and people rant about service at places such as Supreme Auto, Good News Garage, ABJ Auto, etc. Someone told me a story of their mechanic who noticed the driver door's lock was broken and rather than buying a new part, he got the owner's OK to swap the passenger lock for the driver's lock. That's the kind of mechanic I'm looking for, as well as one who knows about Subarus.

Personal recommendations, anyone?

I don't know how to add a tag that isn't already in the list. If you can show us, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

You already said it: ABJ Auto. They managed to get a broken key out of my lock even when a locksmith told me it would be near impossible. Al is extremely fair and will give you a break if you are courteous and patient.

I don't know if they do Subaru's but Hillside Auto Repair on Broadway just past Ball Sq is a really good place. They treated me and my car well and for half the price of the dealership I first took it to.
