My Treo broke, and I'm looking to get a new one. I may also take the chance to change my cell provider, now that numbers can migrate!

Palm wants to sell me a Treo with service provided by one of three carriers. Anybody got comments about Sprint, Cingular, or Verizon, as regards their coverage in the Davis Square area? (I'm currently on T-Mobile, via GSM, and can't get a signal inside Diesel or in Redbone's)

I've had no signal problems in this area with Cingular, and have heard similar things about Verizon. Last I heard, Sprint was spotty, but they may have corrected that.

My newish phone (Nokia 6016i) gets signal just fine in the back of Diesel, although I note that my previous phone (Nokia 3585i) was very slightly better in marginal signal conditions. I've been generally happy with Sprint, although from the large number of complaints I read about them, my experience may not be typical.

Yes, that's exactly why I chose Sprint.

I also have a Treo, Sprint, and no reception problems around Davis Square.

I use my treo with cingular in the diesel / davis square area with no problems at all.

Although that $15/month unlimited data sprint deal sounds nice.

Have you tried in Diesel in the last few months? Sometime around the expansion, I started getting a much better T-Mobile signal in there.

I get great reception with Verizon. I live in a basement apartment near Davis and I STILL get reception there.

Verizon is the best. I had Sprint for a while but couldn't get a signal in many places (including my own apartment!).

My Palm based Samsung i300 with Sprint works great around Davis.

I have a Virgin mobile, which uses Sprint's networks, and I get a signal throughout Diesel.

i've got a treo (was a 300, then a 600, and now a 650 just this week). I have no problems w/ coverage around Davis Sq (including in Diesel). I work @ Tufts, and coverage is fine up here, too.

i meant to add that Sprint has the 650 on their web site for $319, and there's a $50 rebate from Palm beyond that. I think their web price ends up being $80 less than the store price.

it's better than in good shape, it's brand new (and still wrapped up). Mine broke and I requested another one under their insurance plan, and while I was waiting for the replacement I decided to upgrade to a treo 650.

I've got the phone with some extras (a cradle, a 2nd charger & sync cable and a usb sync/charge cable that's great to use the treo as a wireless modem) on ebay right now:

I was hoping to get $200 for the whole kit. If that sounds good to you, i'd be happy to cancel the auction....

I get very good coverage with Verizon in this area. Most places in New England too, for that matter...

Sprint Bad - Verizon Good

Verizon good.
Sprint bad.

Sprint has very nice service plans and they often cost less than others, but their service is not very good. Do you ever leave Davis Square? If you do or if you don't, you might regret getting Sprint. I had it and service would go in and out. Some spots were completely dead. Too many spots. I switched to Verizon and haven't had a problem since....anywhere.
