My website Exploit Boston has been hosting game nights around Boston and Somerville since last summer. I am curious about locations for game nights in Davis Square. If you have a suggestion for a spot that might be a good location, let me know. In particular, the location needs to have 8+ tables that can fit a game suitable for a minimum of four players and they need to be open until at least 9pm, preferably until 11pm. If a game night is held at whatever location you recommend, I'll give you some free games that I've been collecting from game companies for prizes/giveaways.
Thanks for any tips you feel like sharing!

Date: 2006-02-03 05:41 pm (UTC)Overall, a spot that has a slow night and would like the business is usually the best location as far as restaurants and bars. I really liked having the game nights at True Grounds since there wasn't an age restriction (and sometimes it's nice to be able to go to an event that isn't about drinking beer) but ... they prefer to close at 7pm.
I'm not a gamer so I'm not entirely plugged into existing game nights at game stores, etc. I mostly started this up because a friend and I were chatting while at True Grounds about how it might be fun to do an event there. It's more about the social aspect and not so much a competitive game thing. If that makes any sense. I think I'm blathering now. ;)
Thanks again for your feedback. I really appreciate it. If you or anyone else would like to help run one of the Exploit Boston Game Nights, let me know. It's not like it was an original idea on my part or anything. LOL

Date: 2006-02-07 02:04 am (UTC)I'm not a gamer per se either, and IMHO there's different crowds. I don't really want to settle in for a multiple-night series of intense Risk or anything. But I'd love a night where I could play a few games, of different kinds, with other folks also playing games around me, whether in my game or not.
I agree I'd be in it for the social aspect not the competition. Twice last year I visited my uncle's Mensa club's games nights in San Francisco/Oakland and those were exactly my scene... but the Mensa folks here seem stuffy and all intent on proving their uberintellectualism, and not as much about playing Taboo or Encore or Paddidly or whatever.
I dunno if I have the wherewithal on my own to run something now - I run too many other things - but I'd be happy to help out and see if we can get something going in Cambridge/Somerville.
And for the kicker: turns out we know each other IRL :D. (see my journal, oughtn't be too hard for you to figure out esp since I've friended you now) And I wouldn't be surprised if some of the same folks we know thru bloggy means wouldn't also be interested in games... Anyway, maybe we can chat and plot together?

Date: 2006-02-07 03:02 am (UTC)This is the second time I've exchanged comments with someone about game night and then realized we knew each other. Though with the last person we were exchanging notes in the Davis Square community off and on for six months. Lol
