accident followup
Feb. 11th, 2006 08:16 pmFrom the Porter Square Books web page:
"Dear Customers,
Today, Saturday, February 11, we got a bit of a nasty surprise. An SUV jumped the curb in front of the store and came hurtling into Café Zing. The car took out the entire front of the store on the Café side and injured several customers. To the best of our knowledge, none of the injured customers sustained life-threatening injuries, nor were any of the Café's or the bookstore's employees injured.
That said, we will be closed tomorrow, Sunday, February 12 but expect to be up and running on Monday. However, tonight's event has been cancelled.
We thank the many of you who called to offer your help and support. You are the best! We are all right if a little shaken. Our thoughts are with our injured customers. We wish them a quick recovery.
Sincerely,
The Management"
So I guess they'll be open again soon! (Good...I can't go too long without my books and scones...) And hey, the way the forecast is looking, they won't be losing much money being closed tomorrow anyway...

It happened MORE THAN once before ...
Date: 2006-02-12 10:44 pm (UTC)And then there is the new trend* that I first noticed Harvard Ave. in Medford - which seems to be spreading like wildfire in Somerville - of parking on the sidewalk. I guess there just isn't enough room for all the cars in our fair city and they need to spread out a bit more...
* When I passed a Somerville DPW truck inexplicably parked on a sidewalk on Central Street (off Highland Ave, near City Hall), I asked the DPW guy if parking on the sidewalk was a new trend, and he said "Yeah."
