Can anyone tell me what the cheapest high speed internet service in this area is? I got fed up with Comcast and cancelled.

Probably Verizon "slow DSL" at $14.95/month.

Your only real alternative for 'high speed' internet service is RCN.

RCN v Comcast

We just dropped RCN because we got fed up. Switching to Comcast. Sigh.

unless you want shitty DSL, you buy either RCN or Comcast cable modem, and yell at them until they give you a promo rate of $40 for both TV and internet. when the promo rate is about to expire, call up and ask to cancel until they extend your promo rate.

Is Comcast that bad? We live in Cambridge (so I guess I'm misposting here), and we've had Earthlink DSL for awhile, and it's actually fine, but we're thinking of reorganizing and getting Comcast as part of some service bundle.

What did they do? The worst thing RCN has done to me is put stupid commercials on; insignificant to the horror stories my friends experienced with Comcast.

To us, they've been dropping channels at random for two months. Our cable modem drops out in the middle of Warcraft, etc. We call them, and they say its weather related, or due to regular maintainance, or any number of other things, but everything will be fine tomorrow.

We gave up, and are trying to switch to Comcast even now. It's strangely difficult actually...

I say go to DSLReports.com and read what other people have been saying as well. I'm in Dorchester so I can't say what's best around you, but I've had EarthLink fo years and love it. Downtime is very rare. $40/month

Huh. Never had a problem with comcast beyond an outage they gave us credit for when we called.

I think most big cable providers are the same - everybody has some issue at some point or another. Which devil you know and which devil you sleep with... eh.

Well, the cable companies are where you go to work when you can't deal with the complexity and high level of customer service of the phone companies, so...

I love my RCN cable internet. People on our street complain their cable and internet are out and ours is still perfect.

We have Comcast. I play Warcraft too, and the cable modem drops me out, every few hours or so. :-(
