I've got a stupid question, cut for length and only tangential relevance (i.e. it's about the next square over):

Yesterday, on one of the metal-and-stone sculptures outside the Porter Square T, the following was written in chalk. On one side, in a column, were the numbers:

24. 42. 11. 14- 31. 44. 55. 23. 14. 12. 22. 13- 53. 22- 34. 22. 44- 42. 11. 15. 55-

and on the other:

What does it mean? I mean, OK, I know what it means, but why was it there? What does it signify? Anyone know?

It's just a simple code for turning normal words into number sequences. Read the chart down then across to get a two digit number for every letter from A to Z.

Which sculpture, specifically, was this on? Do you think the chalk likely to disappear in the rain or get cleaned off soon? I'd love to see it and bring some chalk to respond!
