From the Somerville Journal:
The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority is rehabilitating the 100-year-old water mains that serve portions of Somerville. During the week of April 10, this work may cause discolored water in the areas around Willow Avenue at Broadway and Parkway at Middlesex Avenue.
If discolored water does occur, it will result from a small amount of iron in the pipes. While safe for drinking, cooking and other uses, please note that ironwill stain light-colored items in your laundry, especially when bleach is used. Residents should check water clarity before washing any white or lighter colored laundry during this period of work. Please call MWRA at 617-788-1170 if you have any questions or would like more information.

Date: 2006-04-10 08:20 pm (UTC)We haven't used our Brita in like a year. We just drink straight tap water. Make you strong like bull. When I was visiting Eastern Europe a few years ago I drank dubious tap water the whole time I was there and suffered no ill effects.

Date: 2006-04-10 10:05 pm (UTC)Given that my toddler showed up very slightly anemic at the last pediatrician's visit, maybe rusty water might not be all bad...
And it's not like almost all our laundry isn't black or purple anyway. :-)
Brown hot water for awhile
