Mattress?

Can I just put an old mattress and box spring on the curb for regular trash pick up? Sorry if this has been asked before.

I was just at the Somerville Environmental Information (http://www.ci.somerville.ma.us/Division.cfm?orgunit=Environ) web site today. Here's something from the FAQ:

How can I dispose of furniture?
Residents can dispose of up to 2 pieces of furniture a week per household. Items may be placed curbside on your regular trash day. The width of the item should not exceed 3 feet.

Thanks for this! I actually saw this yesterday but I'm confused because my bed is definitely wider than 3 feet but people put beds out all the time. Hmm....
