Looking for one cool cat (m or f person, not literally a cat) with whom to share a beautiful, comfy, quiet, & clean Davis Square apartment.

*******Who YOU are *******

Active man or woman in your mid-20's to mid-30's. Responsible and secure enough financially to pay bills and rent on time. A grad student or busy employed person with diverse interests would be great. Smoking is only permitted outside and infrequent recreational activities are allowed in a closed room. We are not alcoholics or anything else-oholic. Neither are you. Have you had a maid your whole life and don't know what a sponge is? Keep looking. Do you clean bathrooms, dishes, and yourself most of the time? We can talk! We're not clean-freaks by any standards, but we have a healthy respect for the common living space and first-hand experience with the tragedy of the commons.

Are you an artist or musician? Are you creative or crafty and non-materialistic? Those would score extra points. Do you like nature, travel, and exercise? Then you're a good influence. Do you want to make your house a home (even just for a while)? Excellent. If you have furnishings, feel free to bring them - there's lots of room(s)! We all have equal claim to this living space.

******* Who We Are *******

Matt has been at this Hall Ave. apartment for more than four years now. He's a 27 year-old man who works for a financial services company in downtown Boston. Outside of the office, he's philosophical and enjoys intellectual challenges, but also likes judo, hiking, and biking. Ideally, he'd like to change jobs in the near term to work for a think tank, NGO, non-profit, or consulting company doing modeling and analysis of social and environmental problems. He's vegan, so if you are vegan/vegetarian and looking for sympathetic people, this is the place for you.

Tobias and Lany have lived here for one year. Lany is a 25 year-old professional working in human resources full time and parttime in retail for fun. When not at work, she likes to hang out with friends, go to improv shows, walk/bike/play frisbee, act silly, listen to music, and plan events. (Her portfolio includes a holiday potluck, her own "Desperate" birthday party and the Wiffle Ball-B-Q is currently in the planning stages. Look out.) Though she enjoys doing all things fun, she has a good balance of work and play and takes her roommates into consideration when planning shindigs. Tobias is a 28 year-old grad student doing research at the MGH. Originally from Germany, he's been living in the area for two years. He's into sailing, running, and other outdoor activities. We all get along smashingly, thanks for asking.

We are clean and responsible, but know how to relax and have fun. If you are a professional or academic all-in-all interesting individual looking for a stimulating atmosphere, this may be your lucky day. Best of all, we are politically progressive, liberal, open-minded, and friendly to your personal lifestyle choices.

Sometimes we have people over for dinner, invite guests for the occasional weekend party, BBQ in the summer, and hang out in Somerville and Cambridge. Fabulous dinners and deep discussions (made less memorable by wine) are likely events for the winter.

******* The Apartment *******

There are 2 living rooms, 1 dining room, a large kitchen, 4 bedrooms, and one bathroom. It spans the second and third floors, but also has ample storage space in the basement and attics. The common rooms are downstairs with bedrooms upstairs. The vacant room (which could be yours!) is 12.5' x 14.5', has hardwood floors, and includes three large windows pointing to the east. You'll get plenty of light and no street noise.

There is a covered front porch with futon and hammock and an open back porch surrounded by a grassy yard. We have cable TV/internet with ethernet and wireless available in every room. There are speakers throughout the house and fenced backyard. The place is great for dinner parties! You'll have free washer/dryer on the 2nd floor and clothes lines in the backyard. Utilities are approximately $1200/year for gas/electric/cable.

The first floor tenants (Pablo and Silvia) are two professionals from Argentina with a cute toddler named Santiago. You couldn't ask for more generous and friendly neighbors! They don't smoke, make noise, or complain and they're always happy to help you out.

******* The Area *******

If you don't know the Davis Sq. area you should check it out. It's a happening place right on the Red Line over the Cambridge border. The apartment is a three-block, five minute walk from the T-stop on a quiet residential tree-lined street. Lany is at MIT in 15 minutes, and it takes Matt and Tobias 20 minutes to downtown Boston. If you drive, you'll have easy access to routes 95 and 93.

In Davis Sq., you'll find a number of good local cafes including Someday and Diesel, the famous Somerville Theatre (live music and indie films), restaurants, bars, smallish local food markets, bookstores, and a nice plaza. Although the area is very lively with Tufts University up the road, it is not as crowded as Harvard Sq. and not as impersonal as Central. You could take out insurance, get a haircut, go out to dinner, see a movie, catch a drink, and hear a live blues band all within a five-minute walk.

Leading out of Davis is the Minuteman Bike Path leading 16 miles northwest out of the city along a reclaimed rail line. The trail leads through several towns, wooded areas and past a nice lake. It's very popular during the summer. Bring a bike! You're only 2 minutes from the bike path (via bicycle of course).

******* The situation *******

We are looking for someone to move in by June 1st. Tell us who you are, what you are into and when you’re free to come by! We are really excited about making this *home* as comfortable as possible. Come and be a part of it!

If by some chance you end up with a summer subletter, I'd be very interested in a September start -- I know the odds are slim, but hey.
