Apologies to all for the graphic content. I saw the hit and run accident in Medford at Tufts and was looking up some stats on hit and runs and got to this link. I was annoyed by drunks driving and people always driving without paying attention.

For all you young people and cellphone yappers who think they are invincible, consider this:

*** WARNING **** graphic content in link

That's sad...

but could you please give some warning about the contents? I *was* trying to eat. Yeah, one meal vs. one life, but still.

i agree. it's always great to encourage others to not drink and drive, and it is horrible what happened to that girl, but please put a warning. those pictures are very disturbing and may seriously bother some people (i know that is the point, but still.)

At the risk of seeming insensitive, what is the relevance of this piece to this community?

my thoughts exactly. Mods?

I don't know the other Mods opinions, but I'll let this one slide because my heart is breaking for that poor girl. I don't know if she's from Davis, but out of respect for her, I'll let it stay.

However, two things to [livejournal.com profile] cleanup_davissq -- you need to place a content warning above your link. Also, name-calling such as "macho boys" has no place here. The men of this community have done nothing to warrent that and you're out of line. Name-calling appears to be habitual with you (I recall the offensive use of "bums" in your last post). I would like that to stop and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I just googled this case and there's no connection to Davis. I'll let the other Mods decide what to do with this post, in light of the sexist remark and finger-pointing.

I don't think you're insensitive. This has been around for years -- I think I first saw it either as in e-mail forward or on Snopes.com (http://www.snopes.com/inboxer/adults/saburido.htm). I didn't appreciate getting it in my inbox, and I don't appreciate seeing it here. I object not to the message, nor to the desire to spread this poor girl's story, but to the manipulative way in which it is presented, taking advantage of shock value to sicken and upset unsuspecting viewers.

In any case, it doesn't belong here, any more than calls to boycott the Post Office for releasing stamps commemorating Islamic holidays, or to pray for a boy suffering chemotherapy in California. E-mail such things to your friends and family if you must, but don't post them here. Their veracity, or lack thereof, is beside the point, IMHO.

So, she was from Davis Square, right? I had no idea, when I saw that page 3 years ago.

But thanks for being relevan AND topical.

Aside from your user name, what does this have to do with Davis Square?

Maybe that tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo, the warmest day of the year and will probably be heavily celebrated in Davis Square. Nothing wrong with a warning.

Well, if that were the poster's intention, note that posting came out on the third. Maybe s/he was actually warning us about that lesser-known holiday, "Cuarto de Mayo".

Warmest day? And Davis Square doesn't have an especially large Mexican population.
