FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Dual "Save My House" benefit for Independent Band Promoter
Anderson Mar & CD Release Party for scene supporters Lucretia's
Daggers @ Sky Bar, Saturday May 13, 2006
Vocalist/lyricist, local darkwave scenester, and left-of-center political
organizer Lauri Murphy (Lucretia X. Machina) is taking on the establishment
with a reformed Lucretia's Daggers and the band's first full-length CD, Sad
Flower Songs - original material that moves from riot grrl rock to darkwave
to synthpop with lyrics that touch upon everything from abusive relationships
to environmental crises. Two songs from the album - "The Horrors of Retail"
and "Dust" - appear in the Boston Underground Film Festival's cult movie
Pony Trouble, produced by Scott Matalon and Warren Lynch
(www.ponytrouble.com). With influences that span the gamut from
Brian Eno to Marilyn Manson to Voivod, Lucretia's Daggers' latest addition -
guitarist Steve Arsenault (Futurist Tarquinius) - brings both an arty-touch
and a psychedelic metal sensibility to both live shows and the band's most
recent recording.
Well known in the Boston scene for house parties with guests numbering in
the hundreds and active with liberal causes like the BLUE (state)
Post-Inaugural Art Party during the infamous January 22, 2005 snowstorm,
Lucretia's Daggers has been playing Massachusetts venues since 2002, was a
semi-finalist in the 2005 International Emergenza band competition, and was
a frequent contestant in ManRay's Miss Gothic Massachusetts. Lucretia also
co-hosts, books and plays the popular annual "Mass. Morgue" Halloween
band/art/performance event with local booking agent/manager Anderson Mar.
Lucretia's Daggers will hold their record release party for Sad Flower Songs
at the "Save My House Tour" benefit for Massachusetts independent music
promoter Anderson Lynne Mar at the Sky Bar (www.skybar.us) in
Somerville, MA, on Saturday, May 13. LD and four other bands on the bill
are organizing this benefit for Mar--who has undergone devastating financial
hardship-- in the band-community spirit which she herself promotes through
the annual New England Goth Punk Metal Fest (www.nepgmfest.com) and
Dark Sky events.
Mar and co-host Matthew Marchesi may be remembered for appearing
in The Boston Globe during last year's NEPGM debacle when the
initially-approved event, which was to take place in Lowell, MA, was moved
to alternate venues upon the city manager's claim that he found fault with
its contracting. The May 13 benefit at the Sky Bar will simultanously embody
the promoter's "unity through diversity" credo with the genre blending of
bands that will honor her tireless efforts to that community, while also
serving as a full-length record release party for fellow local music event
promoters Lucretia's Daggers.
