Scientology on SCAT???

So flipping around on cable (RCN) I once again see an extended programming promoting Dianetics and the Church of Scientology. What's up with this. It creeps me out for all the usual reasons but it would creep me out whatever the evangelist organization was. How does SCAT allow this? I sent them an email but maybe someone here has been involved SCAT? Mostly the SCAT programs are neutral (ok... I have seen some Democracy Now programs). But Scientology? That's a commercial venture (sic church). Yuck.

You can more or less put whatever you want on SCAT so long as you are a Somerville resident, pay their membership dues, and don't violate FCC regulations.

(I've aired a short series about board games last fall which I hope to bring back when I have time, and I sometimes do camera work for friends' shows.)

I just looked at SCAT's online schedule. Perhaps the program you saw was this:

Wednesday, May 10
12:00:00AM Axiom Productions
Informs the public on the effects of drugs, how the mind works, human rights and scientology

At least it only aired once this week, and at a time most people wouldn't see it.

I spoke to the director once about censorship and what is acceptable on SCAT, and she explained it just like this: you can put pretty much anything on, as long as you are a Somerville resident. Apparently, people sign forms that claim all rights and responsibilities to whatever program they air, and if there are irate viewers, SCAT direct them back to the creators of the programs.
