I want to have my hair done for graduation. As in washing that grey right outta my hair :) Or something like that. I'm thinking of having highlights put in and have I need it my hair cut as well.

Does anyone have recommendations for a hair dresser in Somerville around Davis/Porter/Harvard, etc. that's not uber expensive?

I was considering the new place in Ball Sq called Salon Cu but they're a little pricey. Does anyone have experince with them? Are they worth it?

Thanks!

I might try that. I got soaked for $210 at Judy Jetson's (most of which was on gift certificate, but still) for a trim and simple highlighting. Mario's would be cheaper than that, I presume?

I've heard nothing but good things about Mario's and that a women's cut tops out at around $45. I have heard too many horror stories about Judy Jetsons. The people who've gotten good cuts there have straight hair, so YMMV.

To be honest I havent done highlighting/coloring there only haircuts. The women who I usually see have shown me colors they have done and I have liked them all. I am getting my hair highlighted tomorrow with a tiny trim, and my sister is getting a haircut. Ill post back to let you know how much mine costs in total :)

Full-head one-process color, partial highlights and a trim cost me $150 at Mario's. I actually had a poor experience with my stylist -- she didn't seem to speak English very well and we were seriously just not communicating. It was not pleasant. However, once she finally figured out what I wanted, she did a good job.

She's not one of the stylists that everyone else is mentioning. She wasn't bad enough that I'll do her the disfavor of giving her a bad review here, but I will say that going with one of the stylists people are specifically recommending is probably a good idea.

I went to Mario's for a cut, then later for a color and I was not terribly impressed. The stylist left me standing around wondering where I should go for the shampoo, I got completely soaked during the shampoo by some girl who seemed to really hate being there, nobody said hello. I thought it might have been an off day for everyone, but then I went for the color and mentioned how sick I am of black hair and that I would like to return to my natural color (dark brown). Sigh. Of course, she had that unhappy shampoo person put black in my hair.

I came home and threw away the card.

Just went to Salon Cu for the first time and got a great haircut for $20. I guess that's "pricey" if you're used to SuperCuts, but its less than half of what I'd been paying at M.

According to their website, a woman's cut is $35+ and a men's cut is $20...why is this? I have short hair...my hair is just as easy to cut as my boyfriend's hair, so what am I spending the extra $15+ for?

I've gone to GreatCuts in Harvard Square a few times and was happier with them than I was with a place like Judy Jetson's.

I think "razor cuts" are $20 regardless of the sex of the hair-bearer.

is that actually legal? seems like it would run afoul of laws against sex discrimination.

I've been going to Salon Femia and really like them - they just moved onto Holland. It's $30 for a cut..I don't remember what my highlights cost me before, but it was an amazing job. The ladies there are all pretty funny as well.
