Just thought I'd pass this along: Redbones now (finally) accepts credit cards!

Apparently this just happened within the past couple of months, but it's about time! No more making sure you have piles of cash before eating and/or drinking there.

Thank goodness! No more running to the ATM down the street!

In other news, foot traffic at the Wainright ATM drops considerably...

Good. Maybe then they'll remove the service fee for non-Wainwright cards that are still part of the SUM network. That peeves me.

SUM's web site says that the Citizens Bank ATMs a block away are still part of SUM.

I actually have a Wainwright account, so it's not that it inconveniences me personally. I just have a problem with the "but it's a high-traffic location!" reasoning for making it unavailable for other SUM-member account holders. If every SUM bank did that, I could find myself in an area with no Wainwright branch and no other option for a fee-free ATM, and I find that counter to the stated goal of the existence of the SUM network.

Wainwright may also have figured that there were enough other SUM ATMs in Davis (not just Citizens, but also Winter Hill, Central Bank, and Middlesex Federal).

Dude, that's so not Wainwright's call. A bank on the SUM network should have all ATMs on the SUM network, plain and simple.

Ideally, yes, but I bet Citizens would withdraw entirely if that rule was in effect. Others might, too. Better to have the imperfect network we have now, I think.

The SUM network is a great idea, but tarnished by the banks who've decided to exploit as many loopholes as possible. Wainwright's excuse, as you've given above, is bunk.

Citizens pulled a similar nasty trick back in 2000, when it acquired USTrust. One promise Citizens made during the acquisition process was that it would join the SUM network. No problem, eh? Only Citizens then announced it was charging its own accountholders a $1.50 surcharge for foreign ATM transactions, including ATMs on the SUM network.

That rule has since been rescinded, but man, it was a nice kick in the teeth to those of us who'd had their beloved USTrust taken away.

Inconvenient as it may be in a modern world, I kind of respect restaurants that are cash only. No one should be paying X% interest on dinner.

Well, those of us who use debit cards are equally inconvenienced by the "no credit cards accepted" places - and we're not paying interest to use those cards.

Woo hoo!! Yes!!! TWICE I have been taken to Redbones by people to buy me dinner ended up paying the entire bill because I loaded up on cash beforehand and all they had was a credit card.
