Love a Parade - this Sunday afternoon, May 28

Somerville's annual Memorial Day parade leaves City Hall this Sunday at 1 pm, coming down Highland Avenue through Davis Square, then up Holland Street to Broadway, ending at the Veterans Cemetery at Clarendon Hill.

For more information, read the city's official press release or poster. Also, be aware of parade-related street closings and parking restrictions.

Any ideas how long the parade is expected to last?

No, but parades tend to be pretty slow. The press release about parking says restrictions are in effect until 4 pm.

The Somerville Arts Council also invites participants. Here's an e-mail I got a few days ago from Lauren Leeman:

Subject: Join the Arts Council for the Memorial Day Parade

The Somerville Arts Council is participating in this year's Memorial
Day parade and would love to have our volunteers and supporters join
us!

The Memorial Day Parade is Sunday, May 28th.
The parade starts at 1:00 p.m. from City Hall (93 Highland Ave) and
ends at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery at Teele Square.

Please arrive by 12:30 p.m. at City Hall plaza. Please note, that
there will not be any parking on Highland Avenue.

Dress to celebrate ArtBeat 2006's theme, "ReCycle/ReNew". Wear your
best vintage attire or come in a suit made of plastic bags. Family
participation is encouraged.
